Welcome to the all new Mike Murillo Racing (Mike Murillo Motorsports II)
I will not be taking any of your reading time to talk about my racing career or health besides the fact that I am healthy again and ready for this next chapter of life.
However... I do want to talk about business. I want to briefly share some of my business background for those who may not know and for the new generation of customers I plan to meet. I have been in and around the performance industry/business since the early 90’s starting with my HIGHLY and most popular “Texas Jam Racing” (Circa 1992-2001). During its time... TJR was the hottest most successful performance shop in San Antonio, arguably Texas. Those will say… TJR was in a league of its own and flourished until I sold it in 2001. Why? U ask... Believe it or not I thought I wanted to become a SAPD officer but quickly realized right before it was to become, that I most probably would not be able to survive financially at limited rookie cadet pay… Especially w/ 4 kids and 2 ex ex-wives. Things didn’t work out and I took that as a sign to stop my pursuit of law enforcement. During this time, I remained in the industry with a busy schedule racing but mainly tuning for local customers and more. I was sought after from all people all over the country for my tuning capabilities. After my law enforcement blunder or lack of judgement so to speak... I then started “Murillo Motorsports” (Circa 2003-2018).
In 1996 I started tuning for myself (DFI then Speedpro) on the OG “Star Car”. Besides the basics I was not a tuner at this time… However, My tuner help was blowing my baby up OFTEN and I figured hell... I can do that myself for free and or at least I can learn how and why. Soo. I bought my first Dynamometer (DynoJet) in 1997 and off I went into self-tuning and customer-based dyno, track and street tuning. Utilizing different available software’s at the time I was working in and out of town heavily until 2004. I started averaging 2.5 full dyno tunes per day 5-6 days a week. Busy was an understatement.
In 2002-2003 I also briefly worked for Tracy and Wayne from “Fuel Injection Specialties” here in SA. During this time, they purchased a Mustang Dyno for me to work on and let me tell you... It was the best tuning tool bar none. A load bearing dyno will take a mediocre tuner and make him good but will take a good tuner and make him a MASTER. I really enjoyed my time at FIS and they are still great friends and still a very respected and successful shop here in San Antonio.
In mid to late 2003 “Murillo Motorsports” was born. We moved locations a couple different times utilizing a few different available dynos before finally settling down at a location off Judson Rd (Krempen Ave) in 2006. Just like TJR... Murillo Motorsports became a huge success instantly. We purchased/financed our very own Mustang Dyno that same year. It was the mac Daddy, top of the line, state of the art MD-1750 SE. 50-inch drums w/ single eddy current. Once again, I had customers coming from all over the state and out of state for my tuning and dyno time up until 2018.
In November 2016 Lisa and I sold/financed “Murillo Motorsports” to a couple of longtime friends/employees. We financed the name and assets along with rights to the “Texas Jam Racing” name which we had reacquired 1 yr prior after it became available. Lisa and I started racing and filming much of our time, however remaining with the new owners and still tuning for our customers when we were in town.
In 2017 the shop excitingly became TJR once again but unfortunately within 17 months, were forced to move locations in June of 2018 effectively leaving behind only some of our assets to collect. Lisa and I received 1 small down payment at purchase time but unfortunately not a single agreed upon installment after. The TJR name is STILL currently in use presently. But...
We are NOT “Texas Jam Racing” present.
TO THE PRESENT!! Our oldest son Michael Jr. was inevitably and obviously born into this lifestyle. Although we wanted him to do something different, He is repeating my journey. At least Dad can tell him what to do and what not to do. In 2022 Michael asked me “Dad, can I use the Murillo Motorsports name?” Of course. Lisa and I have been racing full time since 2018 under the “Mike Murillo Racing” business name so we are combining forces in 2024.
Folks... I am not saying I can tune it all or that I am the best. In fact, I know I have a lot to catch up on and new stuff to learn. I haven’t tuned a streetcar on the dyno since 2019. But… What I do know is… I have been tuning cars from 200hp to over 5500hp going on 27yrs. I have Tuning data, Tuning files and experience from over 2000+ cars between 1996 to 20I9. I also know we have the best drum-based load bearing dyno in the industry. We purchased our MD-1750 dyno back, gave it some much-needed attention and detail. We upgraded the software, some hardware and much needed maintenance. IMO our dyno is better than when it came from Mustang Dyno and here for everyone and anyone to utilize.
Use our dyno for Remote Tuning, Baseline Dyno Sessions, Diagnostics, Break-In miles or Dyno Rentals for Tuners or Custom MMR tuning. We don’t need to tune your car. You can use whoever you choose. We just want to earn your dyno business.
